On Friday, November 21, 2008, the Lyons Fire Department honored Shantika Torres at the Lyons Elementary Awards Ceremony. Shantika is credited for the extinguishment of her neighbor at an apartment fire that occurred at 93 Broad Street on November 9th, 2008.
At the awards ceremony, Shantika was presented with the departmental “Certificate of Heroism” award, a Hero’s bracelet, and a gift certificate from the fire department and Wayne Fire Extinguishers.
The Lyons Fire Department would like to thank Shantika for her valiant actions in saving her neighbor’s life.
