On Thursday, December 7, 2006 at 07:11 hours, Lyons Fire-Rescue, along with Lyons Town Ambulance, was dispatched to a reported car into the NYS Canal. Engine 6, Rescue 3 and Squad 3, with the boat, took the assignment under the direction of Chief Witt and Assistant Chiefs Paliotti, Darcangelis and Rios.
Upon Engine 6’s arrival, a single vehicle was located on its roof in the NYS Canal. The LFD Water Rescue Team was deployed in order to perform a search of the vehicle and surrounding canal bed. Manual and advanced search efforts via an underwater camera revealed no signs of any victims. It was later learned that the vehicle was stolen from Ontario County earlier this year.
The assignment went back into service at 07:59 hours.
LFD was assisted on location by Lyons Town Ambulance, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.
