At approx 12:30 hrs on Thursday, Newark Ambulance was dispatched to a person who was injured from a 20′ fall from a ladder at a construction site. Further information revealed the patient had fallen down into a pit that was under construction. Newark Fire Rescue along with the Lyons Confined Space Rescue Team were requested to the scene to assist with extrication. Under the supervision of Lyons Chief Darcangelis and Newark Chief Colociano, the patient was packaged and then hoisted approximately 25′ out of the pit using a rope rigging system anchored to Newark’s arial platform. Newark EMS personnel were standing by and immediately transported the patient to an awaiting med evac helicopter. Cooperation between all on scene agencies allowed for a safe and efficient extrication process. Also assisting on scene was Newark police Department and Wayne County Sheriff Department.
